1 Winter 2007 version of BSDA DVD

The BSDA DVD has been updated to reflect the latest release versions of the BSDs. Greg Lehey has also given permission to include the PDF version of ``The Complete FreeBSD'' book. Please see the COPYRIGHT file on the DVD regarding the copyrights on each of the DVD contents.

This version of the DVD contains:

  • Dragonfly BSD 1.8.0
  • FreeBSD 6.2, along with packages and ports
  • NetBSD 3.1, along with pkgsrc
  • OpenBSD 4.0, along with ports
  • The Complete FreeBSD
  • The DragonFly BSD Handbook
  • The FreeBSD FAQ
  • The FreeBSD Handbook
  • The NetBSD Guide
  • The Pkgsrc Guide
  • The BSDA Command Reference
  • The BSDA Exam Objectives (Certification Requirements)
  • The BSD Usage Survey Report
  • The Delivery Survey Report
  • The Task Analysis Survey Report
  • Psychometrics Explained
As last time, we are offering the DVD as a thank you for a $40 donation to the BSDCG and currently the only supported donation methods are Paypal or check.

If you can't financially afford the DVD, or would like to have multiple copies of the DVD sent to your school, or will be working at a BSD booth at a conference in 2007 and would like to bring copies of the DVD, please use the contact form on the website to send an explanatory email and we'll see what we can do.

It is our goal to make the DVD freely available once the psychometric bill has been paid in full. In order to freely distribute the DVD, we will need assistance to burn, package, and ship bulk amounts of DVDs. At the moment, the DVDs are being burned and shipped one at a time on a volunteer basis by Dru Lavigne and Axel Gruner of the BSDCG.

If you have the time to research costs for bulk burning and packaging and/or to find sponsors to cover these costs, please let us know via the contact form or mailing list. We also need someone with the time to research the best deal for a merchant account so that those who wish to donate or to register for an exam using their credit card directly are able to do so.

2 BSD Certification at BSDCan

Dru Lavigne will be presenting a talk at BSDCan on Delivering IT Certifications BSD Style. The talk will describe the rationale behind creating a customized test delivery solution and explain the process that went into its creation. The schedule and registration information for BSDCan should show up on the BSDCan website shortly: http://www.bsdcan.org/2007.

We are also working towards having a beta exam available at BSDCan. Watch the mailing lists for details as they become available.

3 BSD Certification at Linuxworld Toronto

There will be a BSD Certification booth at Linuxworld Toronto, May 1-2. The website should be updated with the schedule and exhibitors soon (http://www.it360.ca). While the booth "space" is free, we are required to purchase carpet and obviously a table and power drop would be useful. We welcome donations to assist with the estimated $400 CDN cost. If you're in the Toronto area that week and would like to help work at the booth, leave a message using the ``Contact Us'' form on the website.
